Endodontics

The space inside each tooth (i.e. root system) is filled with soft dental pulp, which consists of nerves and blood vessels.

It helps your teeth to grow and develop.

But when the nerve of the tooth is infected by bacteria or microbes

(e.g. through deep cavities, cracks or defective fillings),

it is necessary to carry out root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment.

It consists in removing infected, injured or dead pulp tissue.

This is then replaced using root fillings and sealers.

Endodontics thus prevents further penetration of bacteria into the root system,

in most cases allowing the infected tooth to be rescued

and helping us to avoid replacing it with an artificial tooth.
